Jalen Hurts makes huge donation to Philadelphia area schools

Jalen Hurts is getting things done for the city of Philadelphia both on and off the gridiron.

The star quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles recently donated almost a quarter million dollars to schools in the city that will be used to install up to 300 new air conditioning units.

Philadelphia school district superintendent Dr. Tony B. Watlington Sr. spoke with “Good Morning America” and told the show’s hosts that Hurts’ donation will impact more than 5,000 students across the city. According to Watlington Sr.  “more than half” the schools within his district “lack appropriate air-conditioning” to combat when the weather gets really hot.

“When the temperature climbs higher than 86 to 90 degrees, we too often have to let our kids go home early,” the superintendent told GMA. “And that really impacts student achievement.”

While speaking at a local school, Hurts related that he remembers his school days and wants to use his position to help out however possible.

“I think back to my time as a student, not being able to imagine some of the things that you guys have to go through,” Hurts said while visiting the school. “I just want to serve you guys and help in any way I can.”

According to GMA, installation of the A/C units has already begun and is expected to be completed by the start of the school year this fall.
