Lil Wayne could end up on the witness stand in Young Thug’s drawn out YSL RICO trial.
During proceedings on Wednesday, May 1, Fulton County Judge Ural Glanville informed the prosecutors that they need to produce the Young Money boss in court if they want video evidence related to him to be ruled admissible in trial.
The video footage the state wants to use against Young Thug is of Weezy discussing their past beef that led to the 2015 shooting of his tour bus in Atlanta, which happens to be Thugger’s hometown. Judge Glanville shot down the motion, suggesting that the state is trying to work around needing to call Wayne to the stand.
“It seems like you all are trying really hard not to call [Lil Wayne] and that’s your choice,” Glanville told prosecutors per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Jozsef Papp. “If you don’t call him, my ruling will stand on these particular exhibits that you are trying to introduce.”
The beef between Lil Wayne and Young Thug began when Thug started working closely with Cash Money Records CEO Birdman while he and Wayne were on the outs. Thug’s 2015 mixtape, Barter 6, which swiped at Weezy’s Tha Carter album series, got the beef brewing. Exchanges between the two through both the media and music culminated with Wayne’s tour bus being shot up following his appearance at Atlanta’s Compound nightclub.
YSL affiliate Jimmy Carlton Winfrey, aka PeeWee Roscoe, was arrested and charged with the shooting. He was convicted and sentenced to 20 years, however, he has since been released on time served after taking an Alford Plea.
Though Lil Wayne was taken off the state’s witness list last month, a number of other notable rappers such as Birdman, Rich Homie Quan, and YFN Lucci all could still be called as witnesses by the prosecution.
