WhatsApp is seemingly planning to block users on iOS from taking screenshots of a user’s profile picture.
The Meta-owned messaging service is said to be testing out the security feature as of this writing.
“WhatsApp is working on a feature that will restrict users from taking screenshots of profile pictures on iOS,” WABetaInfo reported.
“The latest update from WhatsApp’s beta program for iOS version 24.10.10.70, available through TestFlight, shows that new security measures are being tested for the app,” it added.
In other recent Meta-related news, Threads might be working on building a direct messaging feature.
That’s according to reverse engineer and top leaker Alessandro Paluzzi, who claimed to have found some screenshots of a prototype for the feature seemingly for the X rival.
“Thanks for trying this employee-only messaging prototype. Please keep in mind that none of the messages are encrypted or stored securely,” one read.
Whether this will see the light of day remains to be seen.
Instagram boss Adam Mosseri was previously asked for the DM feature on Threads, and he was clear that he didn’t want users to have “yet another inbox.”
“For now our plan is to not build yet another inbox, and instead let people send threads to other apps, including Instagram DMs but also apps we don’t own. It might not make sense long-term, but we thought we’d start simple,” he responded.
