LeBron James and Eminem team up for ‘How Music Got Free’ documentary

The entertainment industry is buzzing with anticipation as the trailer for LeBron James and Marshall ‘“Eminem” Mathers’ latest project, “How Music Got Free,” has been unveiled. This two-part documentary series, set to stream on Paramount+, explores the seismic shift in the music industry during the late 1990s and early 2000s, a period marked by rampant file-sharing and the widespread piracy of music.

Inside the music revolution

“How Music Got Free” delves into the era when young people, empowered by new technology and a hunger for music, engaged in mass file-sharing, often perceived as a rebellious act of theft. The documentary promises candid interviews with music titans such as Eminem, 50 Cent, Timbaland, Jimmy Iovine, Rocsi Diaz, Rhymefest, and Steve Stoute, offering an unprecedented glimpse into the industry’s transformation.

The creative force behind the scenes

Directed by Alexandria Stapleton and produced by a powerhouse team including James’ SpringHill Company, Eminem’s Shady Films, Interscope Films, and Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, the documentary aims to redefine our perception of tech innovators. Stapleton’s vision brings to light the extraordinary minds from places like Shelby, North Carolina, challenging the typical narratives of technological innovation.

Executive production and premiere details

With a robust team of executive producers, including Stapleton, Stoute, and author Stephen Witt, the series is backed by industry heavyweights. SpringHill’s Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Philip Byron join LeBron James in executive production, alongside Paul Rosenberg from Shady Films, and representatives from Warner Bros., Interscope Films, and MTV Entertainment Studios. “How Music Got Free” premiered at SXSW in March and will be available for streaming on Paramount+ starting June 11 in the U.S. and Canada, with subsequent releases in the U.K., Australia, and other regions.

LeBron James’ expanding entertainment portfolio

James’ SpringHill Company is not stopping at “How Music Got Free.” The NBA icon is set to produce documentaries on sports legends Jesse Owens and Jim Thorpe, as well as an upcoming basketball docuseries for Vice TV, further cementing his status as a significant player in the entertainment industry.

As the release date approaches, fans can catch a glimpse of the highly anticipated “How Music Got Free” through its official trailer, setting the stage for a deep dive into the revolution that changed how fans experience music forever.
