Angel Reese to play 1st pro game in New York after setting WNBA record

Fresh off of setting a WNBA record, Angel Reese is returning to Brooklyn, New York, where she was drafted by the Chicago Sky last month, for her first professional game in New York City.

Reese, who scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, 7 on the offensive end in Saturday’s 83-74 win over the Dallas Wings, set a new WNBA rookie benchmark by grabbing 12 offensive rebounds over her first two games. Only three players in WNBA history, Cheryl Ford, Erika de Souza, and Jonquel Jones, have had more offensive rebounds over a two-game stretch and none did it as a rookie.

Reese, who was in New York City for the Met Gala earlier this month, will square off against Jones, who plays center for the New York Liberty, tonight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. In what on paper is the toughest game of her short WNBA career, Reese will also see action against the WNBA’s reigning MVP, Breanna Stewart, who is averaging 19.8 points and 8.5 rebounds for the 4-0 Liberty. Jones stands at 6-foot-6, and Stewart is 6-foot-4, both taller than the 6-foot-3 Reese. The Liberty are 4-0 on the young season. 

The Baltimore, Maryland, native, who turned 22 earlier this year, sparked attention after sharing the following tweet over the weekend after graduation: “So now what? what was said? oh okay that’s what i thought. I graduated from THE LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY IN 4 YEARS ON TIME I thought somebody without a college degree said sum.”
