No matter where or who you are, things can get out of hand quickly. That’s the reality that NBA player Isaiah Thomas had to come to terms with over Memorial Day weekend.
Thomas, the 5-foot-9 player best known for his ability on the floor after having a roller-coaster career, could have lost his life if it wasn’t for who he is. On May 28, he went to X, formerly known as Twitter, and explained what happened. Thomas has since deleted the tweet.
“Really trippin’ on how these young kids are moving around!!! I really had a life-changing moment yesterday where a kid pulled a AK47 out on me and the homies and if it wasn’t for who I was and him recognizing me in my own city he probably woulda ended all of our lives. Be SAFE,” Thomas tweeted.
Thomas didn’t give many specifics on where the incident took place, but most people know that Thomas is from the state of Washington.
“We just gotta pray for these young men!!!! God was working yesterday frfr,” Thomas continued. “D— it coulda all been over that quick smh. FOR NO REASON AT ALL!!!!!”
Thomas is not the only player who has publicly come out and said that a gun was pulled out on them. In 2011, former NBA player Lou Williams said that a man approached his car in Philadelphia and knocked on his window with a gun pointing at him. Williams says the gunman realized it was it and decided not to escalate the situation.
“I was debating whether to pull off or help the guy. The gun was already out,” Williams said. “He did all the talking and we came up with a solution before I could really say much. I treated him to McDonald’s.”
