Nell and Chris Fletcher are a beautiful couple with some serious skin in the game after 33 years of marriage. The couple was introduced on the OWN network’s “Love & Marriage Huntsville” two seasons ago and recently were bumped from the role of “friends of the cast” to being bonafide members of the primary cast. The Fletchers have proven to fit right in with the cast that focuses on entrepreneurship and the drama that often accompanies friendship and family drama.
This season, Melody and Martel’s divorce continues manufacturing drama, especially as the season opened with the news of Melody having Martel arrested for threats of releasing revenge porn.
“It’s hard for me because I don’t consider Melody and Martel friends. I consider them family. Neither of them listen, and they are both stubborn. It’s not one of them; it’s both. I didn’t like the fact that Martel was arrested but there was a lot I didn’t know about [that] he was being arrested for,” Nell says of the premiere episode of the current season. After learning Martel threatened to release a private, intimate video, Nell understood why Melody went to the police. However, as a mother with sons, she says it was still a hurtful decision.
“I am a mother and a grandmother, and I have sons. I don’t think any woman would like that. But after what Martel did, I don’t think that you can come back from that,” Nell says.
Her husband Chris echoes her sentiment about Martel’s bad behavior.
“I don’t like this, but again, this is Martel, we’re talking about. He is a smart guy, but I wish he would just leave this alone and focus on himself,” Chris shares.
The Fletchers say they implement the four C’s in their marriage: chemistry, communication, commitment, and compromise, with a bonus C of consistency. Nell says compromise is the most challenging for her, and Chris sometimes struggles with consistency, but they work together to make it work.
“The things we see the other couples going through on the show, Chris and I have been there done that in our marriage. We’ve dealt with all of that and survived it,” Nelle shares.
“A lot of couples are not truly committed; if something goes wrong, they want out. They throw in the towel and it’s over. I’ve talked to Mel about this before, but she tried and it just didn’t work,” Nell admits.
The Fletchers are looking forward to sharing more of their story this season on “Love & Marriage Huntsville” every Saturday at 8PM EST on OWN.
