Legendary singer Patti LaBelle is back in the studio working on new music for the first time in nearly two decades and she says she’s open to doing a collaboration with Cardi B.
While speaking to “Entertainment Tonight” on the red carpet for her 80th birthday bash, LaBelle revealed plans for her upcoming album.
“I haven’t had an album out in 20 years and so I’m working on that now,” LaBelle announced. “It should be out at the end of the year. It’s called 8065. I’m 80 years young and 65 years in show business.”
When asked about possible collaborations on the new project Cardi B’s name was mentioned and the “Somebody Loves You” singer said she would be all for it especially because they’ve had such great chemistry since first meeting.
“Why not?” mused LaBelle. “She’s like one of my new best friends and to know that she was into Patti LaBelle! She’s like my new buddy.”
This past November saw the pair work together to combine their two dessert lines, Cardi’s Whipshots and Patti’s Good Life pies, for a social media campaign. LaBelle told People magazine that although they hadn’t met before the social media campaign, she felt like they were “supposed to be together.”
“I’ve been her mother in my mind for a long time because she’s just all that and a bag of chips. And I’m all that and a bag of chips,” LaBelle said of Cardi.
Cardi B most recently released the Billboard top ten hit “Enough (Miami)” and is hard at work finishing up her sophomore album expected later this year while Patti LaBelle is currently touring with numerous dates scheduled across the country through September.
