The estate of legendary late icon Michael Jackson has been ordered to cease all payments due to unresolved tax issues and thereby has cut off the trust funds of his three children as well as his mother, Katherine Jackson.
According to People, on May 28, the IRS filed a motion ordering that the estate cease payments to all trust fund beneficiaries until a $700 million back taxes dispute is resolved.
“In annual reports provided to the probate court, which are publicly available, anyone can see that the Estate provides Michael’s mother and children with very substantial amounts of money to support them,” reads a statement from the estate. “The Estate has a very cooperative relationship with Michael’s children and whenever they need anything, the Estate works with them to ensure that they are very well taken care of, just as Michael would have wanted.”
Over the past couple of years, the valuable estate has been the subject of various legal battles between the beneficiaries and executors.
In March 2024, Katherine Jackson challenged estate executors John Branca and John McClain on a planned catalog sale transaction. Though at first standing in solidarity with their grandmother, all three kids decided to accept a court’s ruling that Branca and McClain could proceed with the deal.
The Jackson matriarch then filed a motion to appeal the ruling and is said to be racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees leading to Jackson’s youngest son, Bigi (formerly Blanket), to say he’s against the estate having to pay for Katherine’s legal fees in the matter.
“It is readily apparent that a reversal on appeal would be an extreme longshot,” Bigi’s lawyers said via statement. “Given those odds, Bigi decided not to waste his resources to participate in an appeal. Nonetheless, Katherine has decided to appeal this court’s ruling. That decision is not for the benefit of the heirs.”
Although no new music has been released by the Off The Wall artist since his 2009 death, the Jackson estate has been estimated to be worth as much as $2.4 billion.

Michael would want his mother taken care of in any way she desires. I seriously doubt that he would deny her anything. Keep in mind that it’s the sale of one of his catalogs of music that she’s fighting to hold on to. Is the estate in need of money that it’s necessary to sell the catalog? Most likely it has more value than just financial to Kathryn and not so much to his kids. And as someone else stated, he left both the estate and his children in the care of his mother. I don’t think he trusted anyone more than he did her.
If he left the estate for her to manage then why are there others in charge. The biggest problem is the taxes owed and the disagreement over the value of the estate. The children and her are cut off for now. I don’t blame Biggi for asking her to pay if she wants to fight it. All the kids are adults now and should have a say so.
I agree with you. There are executors to his estate. If he had wanted his mother in charge she would have been named executor. However,the children are all grown now. There is no “need” to take care of them. I agree with Bigi…let her pay her own legal bills.
Michael’s mother has alot to deal with tending to her Grandchildrens affairs as well as her own. Although she’s financially taken care of no one knows what she is going through mentally . I believe she is trying to hold on to sentimental value.

She has been exposed with Michael over the years and therefore has witnessed to his benefit how she perceived through Michael’s eyes what’s the best course at hand to see a matter through. Ms. Jackson is a devoted mother, grandmother, and Christian. The world need not to question any matters dealing with her son. Do you honestly think for a moment that these attorneys have Micheal’s best interest in mind? Ms. Jackson continue to trust the Most High God and there’s no way you an be lead asunder.

Pretty much, yeah! Before he passed away, he left instructions that his mom would have legal guardianship of the kids. They are now adults. When someone passes there’s an inheritance order. Wife, child, parent, siblings, etc. if someone dies intestate (without a will), this is the order. A will names names and Michael Jackson did not make his mom executor. First of all comes the taxes and 700 million is a lot of money to owe. They are his next of kin, not his mother. They get the bulk of the estate and she gets an allowance for life. They are now adults and can make a responsible choice on how to handle the debt. The executors have to dish the allowance out. The kid is right, if she wants to fight, she should then pay the attorney fees. It shouldn’t be coming out of their money. Michael Jackson made a choice to have kids. He raised them from babies. He was responsible for their care and he provided for them. It doesn’t matter if he is their biological parent or not. The comments are disrespectful and disgusting. My comment is from a legal standpoint which may vary from state to state. Besides most comments are speculative since nobody here was present in their lives to hear or see what was actually happening.
