Many of the original creators and stars of the hit show “Everybody Hates Chris” are set to return for its animated spinoff, “Everybody Still Hates Chris,” reports Variety and People.
Chris Rock, Tichina Arnolda nd Terry Crews will reprise their roles in the new Comedy Central series — although one major actor from the original cast will not be joining them.
“You know why we’re so happy?” Arnold asks the camera before looking at Crews, adding, “Tell them why we’re smiling.”
“’Everybody Still Hates Chris’ — it was announced today y’all,” Crews says. “The show that we did is now animated!”
“Oh, it’s going to be so much fun. Let’s dance!” Arnold adds.
“We have been anxiously waiting to announce #EVERYBODY STILL HATES CHRIS — Animated series on @ComedyCentral — Yay!” the Instagram caption read. “We are so excited about this new venture. For all of you lovely people that have rocked with us, you now get a chance to laugh at our animated characters. We appreciate your support.”
‘Everybody Still Hates Chris’ cartoon series is without 1 star
The animated reboot of “Everybody Hates Chris” will be missing one notable star: Tyler James Williams. Williams, who originally played the young Chris Rock, won’t be returning to voice his character. The original series, which depicted the eldest of three children dealing with bullying at his predominantly white school, aired for four seasons on UPN and The CW from 2005 to 2009.
For the animated spinoff, new younger actors will voice the children, replacing Williams and his co-stars from the original show.
Despite his absence from the reboot, Williams’s career has flourished since “Everybody Hates Chris” ended 15 years ago. He successfully avoided being typecast, unlike Alfonso Ribeiro from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and Jaleel White from “Family Matters.” Williams has built an impressive resume with roles in “Go On,” “The Walking Dead,” and Dear White People, leading to his acclaimed portrayal of Gregory Eddie in “Abbott Elementary.” The show, recently renewed for a fourth season, has earned Williams a Golden Globe, a SAG Award, and two Emmy nominations.
